Our coalition consists of individuals from the neighborhood who volunteer their time to organize the community to not only stop the ill-conceived Midvale-Pico interim homeless housing project, but also to encourage the city to consider alternative, nearby options that will service more homeless individuals than the paltry number of 33 they plan to house. Considering our council district has more than 1300 homeless individuals, 33 is too small a number and will make for too expensive a project to significantly reduce the number of homeless individuals in our council district.
Solving the homelessness challenges faced in Los Angeles and addressing the needs of the unhoused should not be done while harming others. The proposed Midvale Pico Interim Housing project location takes away much-needed parking for local businesses and places a "low barrier" homeless project directly adjacent to and within a residential community.-- with half of the project on a residential property taken by the City specifically to provide parking for local businesses. The location selected for the project takes away the only ADA -accessible parking in the area.
